The San Francisco Giants captured their second World Series title in three years with a four-game sweep of the Detroit Tigers that followed comebacks during the first two rounds of Major League Baseball’s postseason.
Pablo Sandoval, known as “Kung Fu Panda” because of his girth, became the fourth player in Major League Baseball history to hit three home runs in a World Series game as the host San Francisco Giants won the opener 8-3 against the Detroit Tigers.
The San Francisco Giants, who lost their best reliever and top hitter during the season, completed the comeback from a two-game deficit by beating the St. Louis Cardinals 9-0 in a decisive Game 7 to reach the World Series for the second time in three seasons.

The Boston Red Sox acquired right- handed pitcher Clayton Mortensen from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for shortstop Marco Scutaro, and signed Daniel Bard to a one-year contract, General Manager Ben Cherington said.
