McCormick is CEO Markets & International Banking (M&IB), Asia Pacific, and Chairman RBS Group, Asia Pacific at The Royal Bank of Scotland with responsibility for the Group’s wholesale banking, transaction services and wealth management businesses in the region.
McCormick manages RBS’s operations in the Asia Pacific region, where the bank serves multinational companies, large regional corporates, financial institutions and governments.
Based in Hong Kong, he became the Bank’s Asia CEO in December 2005. He managed the bank through the complex integration of RBS and ABN AMRO businesses in APAC beginning in 2007 and the successful divestment of the bank’s Asia retail and commercial banking business in 2009.
From 2002 to 2005, based in London, McCormick was responsible for the RBS global sales activities across asset classes in financial markets. He was also the Treasurer of the Wealth Management Division. Prior to that, McCormick was the RBS Global Head of Rates & Fixed Income.
Before joining RBS, McCormick worked at Bank of America for 16 years responsible for their derivatives business in Europe, Middle East and Africa. While serving in Dublin he became the youngest treasurer ever appointed at BOA.
Royal Bank of Scotland Group Plc reached an accord to start a venture with Guolian Securities Co., paving the way for the U.K.’s biggest state-owned bank to manage stock sales in China, said people with knowledge of the matter.
John McCormick, Royal Bank of Scotland Group Plc’s Asia-Pacific chairman, expects growth from the region to continue with Japan lagging behind India, China and Australia. He commented in an interview with Bloomberg television today at the World Economic Forum in the northeastern Chinese city of Dalian.
